Condition monitoring programme and ARaaS® Predictive Maintenance platform deployment for a provincial water utility managing pumping stations, treatment works and distribution infrastructure across Limpopo Province.
The utility operated a geographically dispersed network of pumping stations and treatment works with limited visibility of equipment condition and a reactive maintenance culture. Pump failures were causing supply interruptions affecting communities across the province, and the maintenance team lacked data to prioritise interventions effectively.
Optimal developed a criticality-ranked condition monitoring programme covering pumping and treatment assets across the network. The ARaaS® predictive maintenance platform was deployed as the condition monitoring solution, integrating with existing SCADA to provide real-time condition visibility. Predictive maintenance triggers were established for high-criticality assets based on vibration, temperature and flow parameter thresholds.
The utility achieved a step-change in equipment visibility across the network. Early detection of developing faults on critical pump sets allowed planned interventions that prevented supply disruptions, and maintenance planning shifted from reactive to proactive across the highest-criticality assets.
